Meet the Class of 2015: Wanjung Tsai

Sep 12 2013

Taiwan born and raised, Wanjung Tsai, earned a bachelor degree in architectural design, but graphic design is always what she wanted to do. “This is the first out-of-comfort-zone adventure that I have never imagined before,” she says, “to live in New York, learn in School of Visual Arts, and be in the MFAD program!”

“Although giving up on becoming an architect, I still find joy in observing the culture of cities, buildings, and people, and try finding ways to reinterpret them in graphic works. I also enjoy cooking hometown dishes and drawing by hand.”

Her favorite work is “Three situational images – finding a way through four layers of maze, climbing four flights of stairs within a tower, and opening four doors – are created to express the concept addressed by the topic of thesis design project of my class in Architecture dept., NCKU.”

“This is the very first time I merge the spacious view into a graphic work. In the future, they will always be the original inspiration for myself to create 2-D works in a 3-D way of thinking.”
