The Design in Spain

Lita Talarico, co-chair MFA Design was the invited to speak at the third gathering of design educators in Madrid, Spain held November 28 -30, 2011. Representatives from over 40 institutions of higher learning from Latin American, Spain and Portugal attended the Biennal event.

Other design schools represented included Henrique Cayatte from the University of Aveiro, Portugal, Walter America and Oscar Pena from the Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands, Thomas Markussen from the Kolding Kolding School of Design in Denmark, and Robert L. Peters, designer from Manitoba Canada.

The event was held at the Matadero, a former slaughterhouse which has been converted into a premier design center in Madrid.

This platform enabled designers and educators an exchange of knowledge and concerns regarding educating students for the future, incorporating new technologies into the curriculum, linking design to economic development, better preparing students for future employment and the roles they play in driving social and political change.
