Eva Doman Bruck Award
The Eva Doman Bruck Award is awarded to the student who during their course of study has displayed exceptional, all-around academic skill as well as having contributed markedly to the MFA Design community.
This scholarship is named in honor of faculty member and thesis consultant Eva Doman Bruck, who was an enthusiastic and tireless advocate for students in and out of the classroom.

For all around and continuous contributions to the MFA Design community. For his energy, talent and good will.
Areej Khan
For her continued contributions to the MFA Design community and for “We The Women,” a campaign to fuel the debate to give Saudi Arabian women the freedom to drive automobiles. In Khan's native Saudi Arabia, women are not allowed to drive. Now, instead of covering up, Khan's thesis encourages women to stand up for the right and to sit behind the wheel. Through her website and downloadable bumper stickers, people participate in the "We The Women" project by putting their own thoughts into the idea bubbles.
Josh Hester
Selected by the entire faculty, the class of 2008 recipient is Josh Hester who, throughout his time in the program, was an exemplary member of the MFA community, and greatly added to the academic and social dynamic of the entire program.
Lara McCormick
Selected by the entire faculty, the class of 2007 recipient is Lara McCormick for her academic excellence and devotion to her classmates, as well as her consistent aid to faculty and staff.

This year’s scholarship is awarded to Yaijung Chang whose thesis “Yellow to Green” confronts the problems of yellow dust storms in Asia caused by the impact of industrialization and global warming.

Sappi Ideas that Matter
"Sappi Ideas that Matter" is a world-wide initiative created by Sappi in 1999 to provide grants to implement creative design ideas to support social and environmental causes. Sappi invites graphic designers to create printed communication campaigns for causes they believe in.
Sappi award winners include former
MFA Design School graduates.
Anne Van Wagener
Anne Van Wagener was raised in St. Petersburg, Florida, the home of the oldest greyhound track in the nation. That's were she learned of the abuse that racing dogs must endure while they are in their prime. Greyhound Guardians is a campaign dedicated to changing that reality for thousands of greyhounds in the U.S. by informing the public of their plight and lobby for an end to the inhumane sport. Sappi's grant enables Van Wagener to produce the printed portion of the campaign.
Lara McCormick
For her thesis, Lara McCormick developed "Stop and start over" a community and information website to help addicts and alcoholics get support about recovery. The site provides a list of resources for people seeking help, a discussion forum and postings of personal stories. "Stop and start over" brings together a community of individuals that give and get support for their addictions.
Receiving the Sappi award has given Lara the opportunity to execute printed materials that support the mission of the website. In collaboration with NCADD (National Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependency), she has worked to design a set of brochures and posters that will be distributed to affiliates nationwide. They will be used in rehabs, student counseling centers, inpatient programs and other institutions.
Amy Wang
Amy Wang's thesis, Ametrica!, is a cautionary advocacy campaign designed to influence legislators to move America into a metric system. As one of the three countries in the world that does not employ metrics, America is loosing in many ways. Wang's advertisements, and particularly a book of facts designed to be sent to members of Congress, is the first step in raising awareness for this critical issue. The Sappi grant was given to print and distribute this informative, convincing volume.
Bobby Martin
Bobby Martin's thesis project was a rebranding of the Abyssinian Baptist Church of Harlem, New York. The church is a longstanding source of hope and catalyst for social reform. Martin's new identity reinvigorated the church by refreshing the logo and the publications, and by mounting a local advertising campaign. The "Word on the Street" campaign took advertising space from consumer brands and replaced them with targeted calls to action that inspired and uplifted the community. Five years later Martin continues to work with the church and the community."
