Entrepreneurship in Bhutan

Feb 27 2014

After a successful kickstarter campaign the art director Jules Tardy (MFA ’11) and his wife, the director Hirondelle Chatelard, completed their documentary, Made in Bhutan, for the Loden Foundation in Bhutan earlier this year.

The Loden Foundation, Bhutan’s first registered charity, launched its Entrepreneurship Programme in 2008. Since then it has funded 63 local enterpreneurs, creating a total of over 200 employment opportunities nation wide.

Initiated by the foundation, Made in Bhutan is a documentary portraying this recent emergence of entrepreneurship. In 2012, pro-bono Chatelard travelled the kingdom with a Bhutanese film crew meeting and interviewing entrepreneurs and key individuals.

Made in Bhutan was released in the capital city, Thimphu, in November 2013. Since then it has been screened all over Bhutan in various settings, ranging from schools and universities to prisons and TV broadcasts, in the hope to inspire as many young people as possible.
