Back to the Future: 2017 Time Capsule
In a heartwarming reunion, which had been delayed by COVID-19, members from the Class of 2017 congregated at a local eatery to unlock a Time Capsule designed to be opened in 2021, created for Maira Kalman’s telling stories class, dedicated to times past. For those in attendance it was a poignant reminder of shared moments together – Fernando Capeto, Michael Stone, Zenzile Sky Lark, Lauren Cantor, Mira Khandpur, Lindsey Fisher, Lita Talarico, Steven Heller, and Veronika Golova.
Before opening the capsule, they attempted to recall what they had made, some of whom vividly remembered their contributions. Included were handmade postcards with portraits, existential statements on scrap paper, a collection of twigs used to help mark the passing of time, as well as locks of hair preserved in little packets and more . . .
The afternoon was awash with nostalgia, as photos of the class under a blooming cherry tree in Central Park were passed around. They reminisced about their MFAD years, marveling at the remarkable strides each has made in their respective careers since their graduation. The event was not just an opening of a capsule, but a celebration of growth, achievements, and enduring bonds through time.
