Meet the Class of 2015: Thomas Strobel
For his bachelor degree project, German born Thomas Strobel created a history book about The First World War using information graphics to visualize the historic events as well as historic facts and figures.
“My goal was to create a new type of history book,” he explains, “without loosing any historic detail; a history book that would appeal to visual learners. I mostly focused on developments and causalities rather than quantitative data.”
“By using information graphics in combination with written field reports the book offers an authentic and interesting view on the topic. The graphics explain the progression of the war, give data about it, and show the dimensions in which it took place. In a way I re- wrapped the (often considered boring) information into beautiful looking and understandable graphics. In consequence this information didnĀ“t need to be told in words. So the written information could give an emotional insight of what happened without being disrupted by too much data.”
