Barry X. Ball Portraits and Masterpieces at Ca’Rezzonico. Ball, an American sculptor, stretches the boundaries of the age-old tradion of figurative stone sculpting. Ball employs 3D scanning, virtual modeling and computer controlled-milling to detail hand carving and polishing, all the while paying reverent homage to historical antecedents. His 24 sculptures are installed in 19 rooms referencing and interacting with the permanent collection of Ca’Rezzonico, the Museum of 18th Century Venice, www.visitmuve.it
Mike+Doug Starn, Big Bambu
First shown on the roof at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY last summer and the highest exhibit attendance evr there, Big Bambu is now in Venice. The 50″ tall hollow tower of bamboo is complete yet remains unfinished as the Starn’s crew of 11 rock climbers willcontinue to lash togther bamboo until closing day in 6 months. Big Bambu is a living organism of bamboo, rope and the crew of rock climbers that build it from within.
