Cat Lady Preserves by Sumayya Alesnan

Jan 15 2013

Sumayya Alsenan (MFAD ’08) got pretty obsessed with making jam three years ago, and last year in December, her jams were accepted to sell a holiday fair at the 3rd Ward in Brooklyn. She is also featured on “the Dieline” with her product “Cat Lady.” What coup.

For now, Sumayya is planning continue selling it at farmer’s markets and food fairs. “People seem to like them.”

The name was chosen because apparently “I am a cat lady. I talk about my cat all the time. and I treat him like he’s human. And also, who doesn’t love a cat lady jam?”

Here is a little bit about the design process:
“The logo was set in the font Lekton. The color palette included black and white, and a accent color associated with each product. The labels were printed on white matte labels, the blanks were filled out by hand, and then the center image was rubber stamped. The jar caps were covered in post office brown paper, and then embossed with a personal embosser. Then was tied with black & white butcher thread. The products then were placed in hand-stamped muslin bags.”

The website catladypreserves.com is coming soon.
