Finito: Give Us A Hand

Jun 19 2011

The Masters Workshop has come to an end. It was a brilliant group, and they’ve all started taking with their hands as you can see from the photos. Except Elysse who’s just smiling a lot as she is on her way to Ravello to get married!

But back to the Workshop.

Participants were introduced to the beginnings of carved letters, had hands-on workshops where they drew their own classical letters, visited the Biblioteca Angeliga, the oldest library in Europe, where they handled an original Bodioni type book, the first paperback books ever printed, original books printed by the Gutenberg press and more.

They walked the streets of Rome, looking at and tracing inscriptions on monuments. There was a four-hour tour that started at the Trajan Column and ended at the Roman Forum. And there was a look at the work of contemporary Italian designers, Cristina Chiappini, Mario Rullo and Mario Fois.

They capped the two-weeks by presenting their final projects to a panel of guest critics at the Pallazzo delle Esposizioni last night. Final projects will be uploaded in their entirety at a later date.
