First Person American launches in Queens

Oct 16 2012

Irina Lee (MFAD ’10) created First Person American for her thesis. Today it is a thriving portal for new immigrants to New York. On Sunday Oct. 21 from 5:30 – 9pm There will be a screening at The Queens Museum of Art of “What’s Your Story?” Corona Plaza Welcoming Stories—a Community Event to Showcase short films that explore personal immigration narratives.

Lee says “The goal is to encourage long-term Americans become more welcoming, and to invite other immigrants to tell their own story about someone who made a big difference in their lives. We’re inviting people to bring a dish to share for a potluck ‘Welcoming Dinner’, as we screen 9 Welcoming Stories. Afterwards, there will be a chance for attendees to record their own Welcoming Story and get resources on how to become more welcoming.”
