MFAD is excited to welcome Klaas Verplancke to address the class as part of the 2023 Milton Glaser Guest Lecture series.

Klaas Verplancke is an internationally acclaimed illustrator, animator, art director, author, lecturer, jury member, curator and publisher of his personal BANG! magazine. His talents have been commissioned by The New Yorker, The New York Times, Pentagram, MoMA, Marc O’Polo and more top clients worldwide. His work has been awarded by American Illustration, Society of Illustrators, AOI and 3×3.

At first glance, Verplancke’s drawings and paintings differ a great deal in appearance and execution. But they always display the qualities that characterize him as an illustrator and designer: a sense of humor that can vary from mild to sardonic, a poetic imagination, a preference for illustrating abstract concepts and universal emotions – and a sideways, surrealistic view of reality.
