Guest Lecture: Randy Hunt on Superapps
Randy Hunt (MFAD 2007) is an American designer living in Singapore, where he is the Head of Design at Grab. He leads the design organization creating Southeast Asia’s leading family of super apps.
Prior to moving to Asia, Hunt spent his adult life in New York City. For more than fifteen years he has designed and built “multi-sided marketplaces.” First, a designer-made marketplace named Supermarket (now defunct), then Etsy, followed by Artsy, and now Grab. The nature of that design has morphed over time. “What began as the craft of creating easy-to-use and attractive online shopping, selling, and communication software,” he says, “evolved to be rooted in creating long-term value through design contributions that benefit and strengthen an entire enterprise.”
Hunt is the author of Product Design for the Web published by New Riders in 2013.
While at MFA Design he founded and directed a design studio—Citizen Scholar Inc.—that worked with clients in education, environment, arts, and social good.
