Meet the Class of 2012: Derek Munn
Meet our MFA Design candidates for 2012. We asked them to answer the following:
1. What was noteworthy about your first year at MFAD?
2. What is your favorite NYC experience?
3. What was your favorite assignment was from first year?
Here are Derek Munn’s responses:
1. My first year at MFAD was a whirlwind of an education. It was full of hard days and long nights, but my outlook on design has changed for the better. I’ve been opened up to new mediums, new considerations, and new experiences. I’ve forgotten to write down more ideas this past year than I ever had before. My brain’s been in overdrive.
2. My favorite NYC experience has been those little moments when I realize I’m actually in NYC. Its’ getting to see the Empire State Building everyday, seeing the Statue of Liberty while riding the subway across the Brooklyn Bridge, and getting to see the occasional celebrity face in Fort Greene Park makes it all so surreal.
3. My favorite project from last year was the music video I did for Gail Anderson’s “Just Type” class. The result was something both fitting to the music and very fitting to my own aesthetic. More than that, it pushed me into motion design, which I had never done or even considered before.
