Meet The Class of 2016: Melisa Ozkan
For the next couple of weeks we introduce members of the Class of 2016 and an example of their favorite work prior to entering MFAD.
Meet: Melisa Ozkan, Istanbul, Turkey
“In 2013 when I was working as a graphic designer at Happily Ever Paper I was asked to design a self initiated notebook,” says Melisa Ozkan. “The inspiration for this notebook came during the Gezi Park protests in Istanbul where the rainbow flag was used as a symbol of empathy, peace and hope. My intention was to reflect the symbols of Gilbert Baker’s rainbow flag and the values this flag represents: sensibility, equality, and empathy. It is composed of six signatures, each covered with a French folded page that is perforated on the fore-edge. Once teared, you reveal the inner page patterns that are associated with the meaning of each color. The notebook was produced and sold around the world, it is quite popular in Berlin.”
