Meet The Students: Tomoka Murakami

Sep 29 2017

I’m Tomoka. I draw food a lot, which essentially sums up my illustration diploma from the Maryland Institute College of Art. After undergrad, I was hired as a assistant in a creative venture called DONGURI in Tokyo. It ended up becoming a job with the title “designer and art director.” Realizing there was still much to learn, I came back to the US to pursue a masters at SVA’s Designer As Author + Entrepreneur Program.

This particular project was a gift for a fellow designer, as thanks for our friendship across time zones and continents. It’s two CDs with our alter egos (a goose and a seagull) drawn on the cover. There are more illustrations inside the case, but there should be some mysteries to life, right?

The cover is painted digitally, and the overall pieces works as a set to tell a narrative of two oncoming journeys.

You can see more oddball creations like this on my website.
