A Celebration of Storytelling

MFA Design students along with Lita Talarico, Steven Heller, and Ada Whitney, celebrated the end of their semester long documentary project with a viewing party at professors Gael Towey and Stephen Doyle’s beautiful townhouse in West Village. While there, students had the privilege of touring Stephen’s studio and the opportunity to interact with the designers of Doyle Partners about their current projects.

After festivities, students and teachers gathered on the parlour floor to watch the final documentaries. The students’ documentaries explored a wide range of topics including: dance, millinery, gentrification, sound therapy and reiki. The documentaries also featured a similarly broad range of styles from: animation and stop motion to live action. In addition, much emphasis was put into the integration of typography in their films.

It was clear that students finished Gael and Stephen’s class with a real sense of what makes a compelling narrative and a hunger for telling more of their own stories.
