East Side is a digital guide to explore East Asian cuisines in New York. There are many East Asian chefs and owners who believe in the fact that they can bring new cultural experiences to a different group of audience through authentic food from their home culture. I hope more and more New Yorkers, especially the ones who are foreign to East Asian culture and eager to try new things, could discover the same kind of authenticity I found in this city. The core product is a mobile website, which provides information in a welcoming and accessible way. The website offers tips of how to consume specific cuisines and their origins, as well as the stories of different restaurants and the people behind them. Accessibility is the top concern for this platform’s audience as they are learning lots of new things for the first time. Rather than presenting the East Asian contents in a traditional manner, I chose to approach the visual direction in a contemporary, open, clean and cheerful style. This choice of look and feel in font, color, and illustration also applies to the event design for East Side Food Festival.
