Soyum is a cooking education platform that popularizes homemade Chinese food through sessions conducted by hand-selected contemporary chefs with unique perspectives of Chinese cuisine. By transforming intimidation to fascination, we bring real Chinese food to every kitchen.

The Chinese food Americans grew up eating is a product of the Chinese community trying to live under social discrimination pressure incurred by The Exclusion Act. It is a food of survival rather than celebration. I want to continue the legacy of Cecilia Chiang to recreate the food culture that was forced cut off in history by forging a better understanding of Chinese food from the beginning of every meal, cooking. By generating interest and offering the right guidance, we hope to expand the Chinese food experience from ordering take-outs to cooking at home.

We offer a chef/theme-driven system. Each chef has a section with their specialty of Chinese cooking introduced on the homepage of our website and it is where users start. Instead of just learning a skill, we help participants gain a deeper understanding of the broader Chinese culture. Soyum is the magical moment when people are amazed by the Chinese food they make. We hope it becomes a rediscovery of homemade Chinese food for everyone.
